RECORD CENTRE 71 MARKET PLACE.
I know that technically the attached is nothing to do with LEGS but for those of us who attended the school in the late 60's/early 70's this was the place to hang out and listen to the latest sounds (much better than Gilberts) - I remember listening to Dark Side of the Moon here in full for the first time.
Photo of paper bag for 45 record sent in by Adrian Otsa.

I remember Gilberts before it moved into the new shop. There was also another record shop somewhere near Burtons but I din't remember what it was called. - commemt from John Simpson.

This plate depicts Madonna and Child by Raphael. The 1961 Jubilee Book says: 'In accordance with Mr. Clegg's views art was not confined to the Art Room. He was an admirer of Italian and Flemish painting and some of the reproductions which he hung on the walls of class rooms and corridors are still about the school : the Raphael Madonna in the Art Room is one.' The plate was exhibited in the old Hall at the Last Detention School Dinner on the 4 December 2005. Unknown photographer.

An opinion poll about school dinners. Strangly my memory of school dinners is that i liked them - especially Mrs Wesson's whipped custard. More names next. Supplied by John Simpson.

I have recently found the attached, which might be the oldest item so far submitted. It is the Report for Christmas 1919 for my aunt, Lily Negus. As you will see it is for Form 2b at a time when the first form must have been admitted at 12 rather than 11. The School is still 'County Secondary'. In those days there was no other secondary education in Long Eaton and most children would have left school at 14. This would have been the year my father (later a LEGS pupil) was born in the November. Lily was his elder sister, so her marks clearly survived the arrival of a baby brother during the term. I'm not sure any other Negus was ever top of a class at LEGS. The report is signed by the redoubtable Samuel Clegg.
Scan and caption from David Negus.
