Caps and Badges

Caps, Badges, Ties and Scarfs.
SCHOOL CAP Mine is a replacement that was only bought weeks before they became defunct (See below). Before I photographed it I sat on it in the time honoured way to get the correct peak shape. For fitting in 1st year we all lined up in Fraz's office under the stairs where the caps were kept in boxes of different sizes. Not weraring the cap was a detention offence and over zealous sadistic teachers like Knight would wait at the school gate and not let you off the premises without the cap. On one occasion in 1962/63 virtually the entire boys prefects were in Saturday morning detention for not wearing their caps complete with yellow tassles. Photo and caption from Geof Carter.

SCHOOL SCARF Introduced in Sept 1964 and called a wrap not a scarf by GBD Gray. The scarf is the school colour of green with the thre house colours of Soar (blue), Derwent (red) & Trent (yellow). When the scarf came in there was an option not to wear the school cap if you purchased the wrap, an obvious attempt to boost sales as they were sold through the school. Dear John Hopefully I'm not becoming a bore. I've looked through memorabilia and seen photos of scarfs, ties and prefect badges. However, I cannot find any recording of the school badge worn so proudly on on our jackets. Fortunately I cut mine off my jacket before its life ended and hey presto find its image attached. perhaps it can be added to Memorabilia? All the best Andre McRobie.

Caption from Adrian Otsa: Just added this item to my collection of old school memorabilia after seeing it on eBay (believe it or not I had to fight off some stiff last minute counter bidding to get this item!!!) I believe it's circa 1921 and as you can see refers to the old school name (Long Eaton County Secondary School) which I understand existed from 1914 until 1944(?) -it does however bear the familiar school motto. Adrian. So who else was bidding for this on ebay? John
