Going....Gone.

Photos of the demolition of the post 60s old school and the move to the new school. More photos of the demolition of both Roper and Tamworth Road sites can be seen at Rob Glovier's web site. See Hot Links Section.
Let us remind ourselves of the wonderful detail of the old grade 2 listed building. The special bevelled bricks, the ornate carved lintels and the stained glass windows. Photo from David Wardell - 26 March 2006.

Another nice detail - and practical also - it's a ventilation shaft which helped keep the building cool in summer. It is not a bell tower as many may have thought. Photo from David Wardell - 26 March 2006.

Some may have loved this, but surely not for it's architecture! Photo from David Wardell - 26 March 2006.

Panned out a bit here - also still standing is the admin block. Photo from John Simpson - 28 March 2006.

The Science block still stands but the windows upstairs are being taken out. This building was only two stories in my day - 1968. Another floor being added later. Photo from David Wardell - 26 March 2006.

And now it's gone - except just one corner of the Science Block still stands. Photo from John Simpson - 25 April 2006.

New foot bridge constructed over canal to give access to the new school - you can just see it in the distance under the bridge. The new school is built on the Lower School site - known as Roper School in my day. Vehicular access to the new school is from Thoresby Road. Photo from John Simpson - 28 March 2006.

So this is the wonderfull new school! It looks like the fictional HQ of Sushine Desserts. (CJ - Reginald Perrin fame) Photo from John Simpson - 28 March 2006.

The Headmaster's old bookcase in the foyer of the new building.
Newly restored - It looks superb, but shame there is nothing in it. Photo from John Simpson - 28 March 2006.
