Richard Guise, Richard Mahoney, Kevin Palmer, John Simpson and Anna Zimand are organising a reunion for years starting their first year in 1962 and 63.

Also welcome are pupils and teachers associated with these year groups. i.e. 1968 sixth form leavers who started in 1961 or if you joined part way through from other schools.

Old friends Sharon (Ramplin) Deborah (Latter) and Cathryn (Worral) and Jenny (Asquith) recently met and decided that they would like to organise a school reunion.

Well a date has now been set for February 3rd 2006 and the reunion will be held at the Silver Prize Band Club in Salisbury St Long Eaton at 7.30 pm onwards! A licensed bar is available. Free admission!

The response so far has been good and we are looking forward to an enjoyable night.

Everyone is welcome, please bring any old photographs of our schooldays with you and don't forget your camera!

Sat Evening LAST LEGS REUNION (LEGLESS) after the Last Detention Tours.

7.30 until midnight.

Meet at the Tiger for a drink. No need to book just come and see some old and not so old faces from the past.

The Meeting room is upstairs and at the back of the pub. (from the Lounge -follow the signs for The Gents Loo and go up the stairs)

Meeting room available from 12 noon so you are free to use it during the day if you wish. (please buy drinks, tea coffee etc to keep the landlord happy.) Unfortunately the pub does not serve meals.

THE LAST DETENTION SCHOOL DINNER

Dear Old Scholar

The Chance of a Lifetime

In February 2006 the original Long Eaton Grammar School building, with its balconies and once outstanding wood panelling, which left a lasting impression on so many, will be handed over to new owners. The present students and staff will all move to a brand new school near the lower school site on Thoresby Road.

To mark the closure of this famous old building we have organised a “Last School Detention Dinner” to be held on Saturday 3 December and Sunday 4 December 2005, to which everyone ever connected with the original school building is invited. The format for each day will be as follows:

Morning Tour 10.00am Coffee on arrival
10.00 – 12.30pm Tour of the Old School and Talk, with masses of memorabilia to remind you of “the best years of your life” and a chance to see how education has changed over the years and appreciate something of the challenge that is facing the new school.
1.00 – 2.00pm Dinner

Afternoon Tour 2.30pm Coffee on arrival followed by a Tour of the Old School and Talk as above
(Those who do not wish dinner)

The meal we have in mind is a gourmet’s delight of: Meat and Potato Pie with Vegetables followed by Spotted Dick with Custard (vegetarian option – vegetable pie) at £10. Coffee on arrival at £2.
You are welcome to come along Saturday or Sunday to take part in either the morning tour followed by dinner or just the afternoon tour. From the initial response it looks as though those of you who were at The Long Eaton School in the very early days up to around 1972, would meet more friends on the Saturday, however the choice is yours.

We are also producing a commemorative mug to mark the occasion, if you would like to purchase one of these, please complete the relevant section below. Please note, as numbers for this event will be limited we will have to operate a first come first served system, and have a limit of 2 tickets per person. Please ensure you have your replies back by 5 October 2005 ***.

1955 to 2005 LEGS Golden Reunion - venue to be announced

A reunion is planned for former LEGS pupils who are now aged 61. It will take place on Saturday 10th September, 50 years after that day in September 1955 when they first walked past the horse chestnut trees into a meeting where they were put into 1A, 1B, 1C or 1D and met the people they would be spending their next 5 or 7 years with.

The reunion will include an evening meal and plenty of opportunity to reminisce about the good and bad times at LEGS in the Fifties and maybe pass around mementoes of those golden days.
