Denny Davies
(Head 1974 -83)
died 23 March 2013
Mr G W R Davies known as Denny has died on Saturday 23 March 2013. He was Headmaster at Long Eaton School from 1974 to 1983. Denny along with his wife Audrey attended the School's Centenary Celebrations during July 2010.

Audrey said in her email: His dementia started ten years ago and his life lost much of its purpose.
Just three weeks ago , when asked about his career he said proudly " I was the Headmaster of Long Eaton School" -and everybody was very impressed.
The Centenary Celebrations in 2010 were proud moments for him and he was thrilled to meet some of his old friends who came to speak to him.
Thank you for keeping in touch and sending the Newsletters - I always read them to him.

Denny's name- he was actually christened George William Reginald Denny Davies. His Mum - a very correct Welsh lady - a trained nurse- told me with a twinkle in her eye that her son was called George after her father, William after his Dad's father and (with a blush) Reginald Denny after a film star that she "admired" at the time!

It was at University that I developed my love of Bridge - a passion only matched by my fascination with the game of Cricket.
After University I had to complete my National Service- choosing to teach at the Army Apprentice School in Harrogate -rather than the alternative- serving on the front line in Korea!!
Whilst on leave I met a young lady called Audrey- who was celebrating her 16th. Birthday. We got married 3 years later and - in time- we were blessed with our two children Alison and Peter.
As a Geography graduate I taught for many years at Heywood Grammar School - making lifelong friends - and playing a lot of Bridge.
Next a Deputy Headship in Birmingham and then the Headship of Long Eaton School in Derbyshire
I was invited to join the Rotary Club and I have greatly enjoyed the fellowship and opportunity for service ever since.
Our children and our grandchildren- Joe, Edd and Lily have been my greatest pride and joy.
I am a lucky man.
