From LYNN ROBINSON: IN MEMORY OF DAVID NEWTON (December 2006)

About five years ago, I discovered David on Friends Reunited and we resumed contact, (although sporadic), for the first time since leaving school.

He moved to Kendal when he was nineteen, working for the Provincial Insurance Group at their Head Office, where he eventually headed up their computer systems.

He was happily married to a Kendal girl, Sue, and they had two daughters and two grand-daughters.

Unfortunately, when we regained contact, he had been forced to retire fifteen years earlier, having developed a devastating lung disease. He had set up his own business and continued to work, when he could. Although his quality of life was often compromised, his correspondence was always positive and hopeful, without any bitterness or self-pity. His wry observations on parenthood and life always made me smile: he was an inspiration.

In Oct 2007, I had a message from David's younger brother, Tony, (also LEGS), to say that David had died in December 2006.

My memories of David are quite special. I have just looked at him again, on the 1964 school photo, and I am reminded of just how good-looking he was... no wonder I accepted his invitations to go to the pictures and to walk by the Trent!

We became acquainted first through our attendance at Mount Tabor Sunday School and then again at LEGS. Our 'courtship' only lasted for a couple of dates: we were very young... and holding hands wasn't all it was cracked up to be!

I remember David fondly and I am grateful that we renewed our friendship before it was too late.
